Thomas Armour Youth Ballet
South Miami Location Classes, Schedules and Tuition
In line with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ decision to start the year remotely, TAYB’s lessons will start on August 24th completely virtually. Once our families and staff feel safe to return again, we will integrate a hybrid class system in which part of the class will participate remotely while revolving groups will come into the studio for in-person classes.
Our current schedule still includes all of our traditional classes. Our fee schedule will remain the same as it has for the past five years, but as we have said since the beginning of the shutdown, we will work with all families who have been impacted financially to ensure an affordable fee within their budget.
By registering for our live classes, you’ll have full access to a brand new feature that TAYB is launching this year. Pocket Studio is an online library of on-demand fitness, dance, and yoga classes produced by our teachers. This service caters to all ages and levels of intensity. You can access Pocket Studio here with the same login credentials you use to make payments.
Live classes will be held on the Zoom platform. After registering and making your first payment, the Meeting ID for each class you registered for will be shared with you. These Meeting ID’s will remain the same all year. In order to access these classes, all you need is a free Zoom account. Our staff is available to help with any technical issues! Click here to read our guide to taking a Zoom dance class.
While all of our traditional classes are still being offered, our schedule has changed a bit. Please see our updated schedule in the section below. Click here to see our suggestions for at-home dance floors and barres.
The Thomas Armour Youth Ballet’s creative movement and pre-ballet program has been specifically designed for pre-schoolers, kindergarteners, and first graders. Classes are grouped according to age (3, 4, 5, & 6), in order to meet the highly specific developmental needs in each of these years. Pre-schoolers (3 & 4 year olds) may attend a 45 minute creative movement class, once a week. Kindergarteners and first graders (5 & 6 year olds) may attend a 1 hour pre-ballet class, once a week. All four levels focus on coordination and musicality, with an emphasis on body conditioning for pre-ballet groups.
*Please note: All students must be potty trained.

Beginner tap class is perfect for anyone brand new to tap. Students will learn all the basic tap steps. Students will work on technique, improvisation, choreography, tap and jazz history, and music theory. Technique work will include rudiments and exercises designed to help students execute steps clearly and correctly. Improvisation will include playing specific notes, trading bars with other students, and improvising with music. Students will learn various choreographies to work on putting steps together and performing. Classic dances such as The Shim Sham and Coles Stroll will be taught throughout the year. Tap history will include footage, biographies of tap dancers, and the history of how tap started. For jazz music history, students will learn a different jazz standard every class and about jazz musicians and the instruments they play. Music theory is a vital part of tap class because tap dancers are both musicians and dancers. Students will learn how to read and write music and create tap phrases.
